The ultimate trio of Central Europe: Prague, Bratislava and Vienna

Why visit just one of them when you can have the best time exploring all three cities in one go? Yes, that's absolutely possible - been there, done that! I organized that exact trip for me and my friends in February 2025 and we had the best time! 🤩

Prague Old Town

We started our trip in Prague 🇨🇿 We planned 3 nights here just to be able to see as many things as possible while also having the time to explore new restaurants and bars. I mean, Czechia is famous for its endless beer choices after all!

Trust me when I say that we were so not prepared to see such a gorgeous city!! It was like love at first sight for all of us. The colorful buildings and cobblestone streets, all with a similar architectural style, clean and quiet streets, vibrant central area, stunning churches, a well-preserved castle... not to mention the delicious local food. A cabbage soup served in a bread bowl is a must!

National Museum

Some of our highlights include the massive St. Vitus Cathedral located in the castle, the gorgeous National Museum, and the Old Town (although Prague is absolutely stunning overall).

A very cool experience was also the Railway restaurant in which the food and drinks are brought to you via tiny trains. A proper tourist trap in my view, but a genius idea nonetheless! Perfect for some extra social media engagement 😉

St. Vitus Cathedral

Our second stop was Bratislava 🇸🇰 We booked first-class train tickets to have more comfort. The free prosecco and €1 cheesecake were just the bonus and made the 4-5h train journey much more enjoyable. I promise you the train journeys in Europe are a whole different experience! It’s not only about sustainability but also about having space and freedom to move around while soaking up the amazing views along the route.

Bratislava - Michael’s Gate

But, back to Bratislava. Unlike Prague, it is much smaller and it's possible to see most of it in just 1-2 days (as advised by our Slovak friends). We already got plenty of food and drink recommendations from them, so all we had to do was complete our Google Maps route in 24 hours. That proved to be an easy task! A leisure walk around the Old Town, a short climb to the Castle, then all the way down to the Presidential Palace. We finished the day with some shopping in Eurovea and the best cocktail experience in a secret cocktail bar (yes, we know plenty of those all around Europe).

Bratislava Old Town

You’re probably thinking whether it’s worth visiting just for 1 day. As a stand-alone trip probably not, but if you’re able to squeeze it in your agenda while traveling to Prague and/or Vienna, make sure to do it. It’s a charming city and the people are amazing!

Speaking of Vienna 🇦🇹, we decided to do a spontaneous day trip there, as it’s less than an hour away from Bratislava.

Maria Theresa Square

So close, but so different. I’ve already visited Vienna maybe 10 years ago and I realized I had definitely forgotten how beautiful it is! Vienna is a large city, very busy and just grandiose. It’s literally like an open-air museum in my view. The city is famous for being the home of many famous classical musicians (Mozart chocolate balls filled with marzipan are a must btw 🤤), many castles & palaces, museums, luxury shops, and of course, the Wiener schnitzel.

Michaelerplatz

The extreme cold and rainy / snowy weather didn’t stop us from fully enjoying the city! Unless you’re a very active traveler and don’t mind walking 30-40k steps per day, then it’s not really possible to explore Vienna in just 1-2 days. For a proper chill experience, you need at least 3 full days. And in case you are a fan of museums and want to visit some of the multiple castles and palaces, then plan a couple of more days because there are plenty of amazing places worth visiting. I mean, just look at the restaurant inside the Historical Art Museum. I don’t know about you, but I would certainly feel like a royal dining there.
